This interactive session equips healthcare professionals with practical strategies for fostering cultural awareness—an essential element in building trust, improving outcomes, and leading with respect.

Through a hands-on, station-based activity, participants collaborate in small groups to explore how a deeper understanding of Alaska Native cultures can enhance patient care and teamwork. The session then shifts to the legal and political context behind healthcare obligations to Alaska Native communities, dispelling misconceptions around “free” care and highlighting the long-standing federal trust responsibility.

By connecting cultural awareness with its historical and legal foundations, this class empowers leaders to create more respectful, effective, and equitable healthcare environments.
